Essex teenager achieves world championship victory in BMX racing

The Briantree BMX Club had a tremendous showing at the UCI BMX World Championships in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Despite the challenges that came with competing on a global stage, the club’s 11 riders delivered outstanding results. Three of these riders even made it to the final round. The competition attracted nearly 3,000 riders from over 40 countries.

The standout performers from Briantree were Freia, a 16-year-old girl from Halstead, Essex and Poppy Bishop, an 11-year-old girl who finished in sixth place. Freia’s younger sister, Holly also made it to the final and secured the title of world number seven. Coach Julian Allen praised these girls for their exceptional efforts and performance, especially considering the challenging weather conditions they faced during the event. These included torrential rain, heat and an electrical storm.

Freia’s determination and warrior spirit shone through as she emerged as the 16-year-old girls’ world champion for the fourth time in a row. She expressed her happiness at winning the title despite facing unexpected challenges throughout race day. Freia will be moving up to the Junior Elite category in 2025 and Allen is excited about her potential as she transitions into higher championship classes in the future.
