IndianOil Corp. Ltd (IOCL) has recently selected Lummus Technology for a 440,000 tpy cumene unit at their complex in Paradip, India. The new cumene unit is part of a grassroots petrochemical and polymers expansion at IOCL’s facility.
Lummus Technology has announced that they will provide the technology license for the cumene process, basic design engineering, proprietary catalyst, site services, advisory services, and training to IndianOil. This project marks the latest in Lummus’ long-standing relationship with IOCL, which includes multiple Lummus technologies licensed for naphtha cracker, INDMAX FCC, and polypropylene at complexes across India.
The cumene process is a liquid-phase alkylation technology using a proprietary zeolite catalyst and is characterized by high cumene yield, ultra-high purity cumene product, and long catalyst run length. This technology will offer IOCL lower energy costs and exceptional product yield while maintaining operational efficiency. Romain Lemoine, Chief Business Officer for Polymers and Petrochemicals at Lummus Technology stated that this project will help optimize IOCL’s plant economics and support their growth initiatives.
