Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, is currently testing a cash bonus program for creators on their Twitter-like app, Threads. According to a spokesperson from the company, the program is invite-only and aims to retain users amidst competition from platforms like X, Bluesky, and Mastodon. Eligible creators can earn money based on the performance of their posts or the number of posts shared on the app. To qualify for payouts, Threads posts must have more than 2,500 views.
The success of Threads has been evident since its launch in July 2023 when it became the top-ranked app on the Apple App Store, surpassing X. With over 130 million monthly active users and steady growth, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg remains optimistic about the app’s potential. In addition to Threads, Meta is also experimenting with a “Spring Bonus” program for Instagram, paying creators for engagement on various types of posts. This initiative underscores Meta’s continued efforts to incentivize creators and enhance user engagement across its platforms.
Instagram previously had a bonus program for reels but discontinued it in March 2023. However, there are hints that bonuses might make a return according to Instagram Head Adam Mosseri. These initiatives demonstrate Meta’s commitment to its creators and their success on its platforms.
