Mets Option Starting Pitcher Tylor Megill to Triple-A, Replace with Reliever Amid Shortage of Options

The Mets have decided to option starting pitcher Tylor Megill to Triple-A Syracuse after a 9-6 loss to the Astros on Saturday. This move was reported by Anthony DiComo of MLB.com. With the team facing a shortage of relievers until Edwin Diaz returns from suspension, they have chosen to replace Megill with a reliever for the time being.

The Mets have the option to recall either Christian Scott or Jose Butto to spot start for Megill in his next rotation turn. In Saturday’s game, Megill pitched 5.1 innings, allowing four earned runs on five hits and three walks. Despite the loss, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza had some positive words to say about Megill’s performance.

Mendoza acknowledged that Megill showed potential on the mound, with a fastball that had good movement and some solid split pitches. Despite this, the Astros proved to be tough opponents and the Mets struggled to shut them down.

Throughout the season, Megill has started in eight games and currently holds a 2-4 record with a 5.08 ERA and 1.44 WHIP. This move to Triple-A will give Megill some time to hone his pitching skills and potentially return to the Mets rotation in the future.
