Microsoft Delays Launch of AI-Powered Recall Feature Amid Security Concerns

Microsoft has recently announced a delay in the launch of the AI-powered Recall feature, which was originally scheduled to be released on June 18. Recall is an innovative functionality integrated into the new Copilot+ PCs that uses AI to create a photographic memory system, allowing users to search for previously accessed content across various applications, documents, and websites. The feature stores an index locally on the device being used to enable this search capability.

Due to concerns about potential vulnerabilities in Recall that could compromise users’ private information, Microsoft has delayed its release. Instead of being widely available on June 18 as originally planned, Recall will now be included in the Windows Insider Program for testing in the upcoming weeks. The company aims to gather feedback from the community through this program to ensure that the functionality meets high quality and security standards.

Microsoft emphasized that security is their top priority and assured users that Recall will feature ‘Just in Time’ encryption, ensuring that the photographic memory is decrypted only with Windows Hello. The company is adjusting the release model of Recall to leverage the insights of the Windows Insider community and ensure a safe and high-quality experience for users.
