MIT Engineering and Business Graduate Programs Earn Top Rankings from U.S. News for 2024-25

The annual rankings released by U.S. News and World Report have once again placed MIT’s graduate program in engineering at the top spot. This prestigious ranking has been held by the Institute since 1990 when the magazine first started ranking such programs. In addition to the engineering program, the MIT Sloan School of Management also received high rankings, securing the No. 5 spot for the best graduate business programs.

In terms of individual engineering disciplines, MIT excelled in six areas, including aerospace/aeronautical/astronautical engineering, chemical engineering, computer engineering, electrical/electronic/communications engineering, materials engineering, and mechanical engineering. It also placed second in biomedical engineering/bioengineering and nuclear engineering. Among the 12 peer-review disciplines ranked this year, MIT secured the top spot in computer science.

U.S. News bases its rankings on a combination of reputational surveys of deans and academic officials as well as statistical indicators that measure the quality of a school’s faculty, research, and students. In the fields of science, social sciences, and humanities, rankings are solely based on reputational surveys
