A Broward teacher was arrested for slamming a student’s head into a table twice after getting angry about a joke. The incident happened during school hours at Monarch High School in Coconut Creek, with the student reportedly calling him “Cagle Bagel” while walking by his classroom. According to the arrest report, Christopher Cagle, a 64-year-old science teacher, became upset by the joke and directed the teenager to come towards him. When the student attempted to shake his hand, Cagle twisted the student’s hand behind his back, making him feel dizzy. Surveillance footage showed Cagle dragging the student into the classroom, resulting in red scratch marks on his back and neck.

The school resource officer noted these injuries and pressed charges against Cagle for child abuse. Broward County Public Schools stated that student safety is their top priority and that they are cooperating with authorities regarding the matter. As a result of this incident, Cagle has been reassigned away from the school pending the outcome of the case. In a separate incident, the school faced scrutiny for allegations of breaking a state law regarding trans females playing on the girl’s volleyball team, leading to the reassignment of five employees, including the principal.
