For more than 35 years, students from high school juniors to seniors have been attending The Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science (MSMS) in Columbus, Mississippi. Since its establishment in 1987, the school has been located on the Mississippi University for Women (MUW) campus, forming a strong partnership between the two institutions. The administrations of both schools are committed to maintaining this relationship and supporting the success of MSMS students.

Recently, at a Town and Tower Meeting held on MUW’s campus, speakers discussed the history, mission, and achievements of MSMS. Ginger Tedder, who is both the Executive Director and an alum of the school, was present along with original faculty member Emma Richardson and current Director of Academic Affairs Dr. Thomas Easterling. They emphasized the unique opportunities available to MSMS students and highlighted the close connection between Columbus and MUW. The importance of community involvement was also stressed as it plays a key role in the success of the program.

Over time, MSMS has established strong ties with Columbus’ local community. The school values diversity and exposure to different cultures, providing students with a well-rounded education while they are enrolled at MSMS. Their goal is to strengthen their relationship with MUW, Columbus, Lowndes County and Columbus Air Force Base further in order to support their growth as well as their continued success in Columbus’ community.
