Nelly Korda recently saw her record-tying winning streak of five tournaments come to an end with a seventh-place finish at the Cognizant Founders Cup in New Jersey. Despite the disappointment of not winning, Korda acknowledged that the gravity of her accomplishment had yet to sink in. She mentioned that maybe in 10 or 15 years, she would truly appreciate what she had achieved and hoped that someone would surpass her streak one day.
Korda’s remarkable run began earlier in the year with a victory in January and continued with four more triumphs on the LPGA Tour. Her streak culminated with a win at the Chevron Championship, where she claimed her second career major title. This achievement placed her alongside Nancy Lopez and Annika Sorenstam as the only players in LPGA history to win in five consecutive starts.
After a break following her record-setting streak, Korda returned to the course at Upper Montclair Country Club for the Cognizant Founders Cup. Despite not performing as well as she had hoped during the tournament, she remained optimistic about her upcoming competitions. Korda expressed excitement for the Mizuho Americas Open at Liberty National and other prestigious events on the LPGA Tour schedule, including major championships at venues like Lancaster Country Club, Sahalee Country Club, Evian Resort, and St Andrews Old Course.
Looking forward, Korda mentioned her ambitions to qualify for the Olympics and Solheim Cup, recognizing their significance in her career. As a defending Olympic gold medalist, she understands their importance and emphasizes staying focused while avoiding getting ahead of oneself. With a calendar full of exciting events, Korda remains determined to continue her success on the LPGA Tour and strive for even more achievements in the future
