Nepal’s T20 World Cup Preparations in Limbo as Star Player Faces Legal Issues

Experienced Nepal squad to be led by Rohit Paudel at T20 World Cup

Nepal is preparing for the T20 World Cup with a squad led by Rohit Paudel, who has been in great form during the series against West Indies A at home. The expanded squad for the series saw Aarif Sheikh, Bibek Yadav, and Aakash Chand being left out of the 15-man squad for the World Cup. Unfortunately, Sandeep Lamichhane, Nepal’s best-known T20 cricketer, is currently serving a jail sentence for rape. Despite winning the first game against West Indies A by four wickets, Nepal has since lost the next two games. The series will have its last two games on Thursday and Saturday.

The experienced squad for the World Cup includes players like Aasif Sheikh, Anil Kumar Sah, Kushal Bhurtel, Kushal Malla, Lalit Rajbanshi, Karan KC, Sompal Kami, and others. Dipendra Singh Airee, who made history last month by hitting six sixes in an over in a men’s T20I match against Qatar, is also part of the squad.

Nepal is placed in Group D at the World Cup alongside Bangladesh, Netherlands, South Africa, and Sri Lanka. They will begin their campaign on June 4 against Netherlands in Dallas. The Nepal squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 includes Rohit Paudel as captain along with Aasif Sheikh
