New Hanover County is a thriving community that has seen significant growth and development in the past year, according to Bill Rivenbark, chairman of the county board of commissioners. In his recent state of the county address, Rivenbark highlighted the county’s appeal for both business and leisure, reflecting on its achievements in various areas.
Rivenbark spoke about successful partnerships with organizations like Wilmington Business Development and the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce, which have led to investments from businesses along the U.S. 421 corridor. He mentioned projects such as the Wilmington Trade Center and Kessebohmer’s new headquarters as examples of ongoing growth in the area.
In addition to business development, Rivenbark emphasized the importance of workforce housing, noting the county’s $15 million investment over five years. He also discussed the county’s commitment to education despite recent challenges such as a $20 million budget shortfall faced by the school system. Rivenbark stressed that New Hanover County continues to support education through various initiatives and investments, including infrastructure, pre-K programs, school nurses, and school resource officers.
