New Proposed Licensure Standards for Assisted Living Residences in New Jersey

Health Department News

New Jersey’s Department of Health has proposed modifications to the standards for licensure of Assisted Living Residences, Comprehensive Personal Care Homes, and Assisted Living Facilities at N.J.A.C. 8:36-1.3 and 2.4. The changes aim to establish a “Deemed Status” process and criteria.

The proposed amendments would outline the guidelines for facilities to attain “Deemed Status,” which would simplify the licensure process and designate facilities that meet certain requirements without requiring additional inspections or evaluations. This new approach aims to improve efficiency and ensure that facilities are meeting the necessary standards for providing quality care to residents.

The Department of Health’s proposal seeks to enhance oversight and accountability within the assisted living industry while also providing clarity for facilities seeking licensure. By establishing clear criteria and processes for achieving “Deemed Status,” the department hopes to promote consistency and quality of care across all licensed facilities in New Jersey.

Overall, the proposed amendments represent a significant step forward in ensuring the safety and well-being of residents in assisted living facilities in the state. The department is currently seeking feedback from stakeholders as they work towards finalizing these changes to the licensure standards for these types of facilities.
