New Weapon: Bears Acquire Receiver Keenan Allen for Upcoming Season

Ryan Poles deems Keenan Allen as “a flawless match”

The Bears made a significant move earlier this month by acquiring receiver Keenan Allen through a trade, adding another weapon to their offense for the upcoming season. This was done with the presumptive No. 1 overall pick, Caleb Williams in mind. Chicago G.M. Ryan Poles revealed at the annual league meeting on Monday that the team’s personnel staff had been monitoring Allen as a potential cap casualty. When the opportunity arose and Allen became available, Poles was prepared to seize it.

Poles spoke about his experience watching Allen play in KC and was impressed by his ability to make impressive plays despite his age. Despite playing only 13 games last season, Allen achieved a career-high with 108 catches, 1,243 yards (the second most in his career), and seven touchdowns. Poles believes that adding Allen presents an excellent opportunity for the team as they move forward with a young quarterback.

Allen’s understanding of the NFL, timing, space, and ability to read defenses will greatly benefit a young quarterback. With DJ Moore, tight ends Cole Kmet and Gerald Everett, running back D’Andre Swift on board, Poles sees a balanced field with lots of potential for dynamic and special plays in the upcoming season.
