New Welfare Program for Palestinians: A Step Toward Peace and Stability in Gaza

Encouraging progress in halting payments to terrorist families

The Palestinian Authority is planning to replace its current welfare program with a new one that will provide assistance to all Palestinians except for the families of terrorists. A senior Biden administration official mentioned that there has been progress on this change and that it is promising. Another senior administration official also confirmed the upcoming modifications to the system.

During Defense Minister Galant’s recent visit to Washington, discussions were held regarding the potential establishment of a multinational military force comprised of Arab countries. This force would receive support from the US and would be responsible for maintaining law and order in Gaza, as well as escorting humanitarian aid convoys. Israel is interested in this initiative to address issues such as the looting of aid convoys, hunger in Gaza, and challenging Hamas rule.

An Israeli official highlighted the significance of creating a governing body in Gaza that is not affiliated with Hamas, which would also help resolve tensions with the US regarding the humanitarian situation in the region. The Defense Minister raised the idea of forming a multinational force during discussions with US officials, aiming to lay the groundwork for a post-war plan in Gaza.
