New York Yankees Acquire J.D. Davis in Trade with Oakland Athletics; Giancarlo Stanton’s Injury Puts Versatile Outfielder in the Spotlight

On Sunday, the New York Yankees made a roster move by acquiring former New York Met J.D. Davis in a trade with the Oakland Athletics. The deal included cash considerations, with infielder Jordan Groshans heading to Oakland in exchange.

With Giancarlo Stanton sidelined for at least 10 days due to a left hamstring strain, manager Aaron Boone sees Davis as a potential option to provide some right-handed power for the Yankees. Davis is a versatile player who can play multiple positions, including first base, third base, and designated hitter. Throughout his eight-year professional career, Davis has put up solid numbers, hitting .259 with 72 home runs and 220 RBI. His best season came in 2019 with the Mets when he hit .307 with an .895 OPS, 22 home runs, and 57 RBI.

In return for Davis, the Athletics received Groshans, a 24-year-old infielder claimed off waivers by the Yankees from the Miami Marlins in February. Groshans has previously been a part of the Marlins’ and Blue Jays’ organizations before joining the Yankees.
