Nintendo Announces Release Date for Successor to Popular Switch Console by 2025

The Nintendo Switch 2 set to be unveiled by April of next year

Nintendo has announced that it will reveal the successor to its popular Switch console by April 2025. The announcement was made alongside the release of the company’s year-end financial results. Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa confirmed that the next-generation console would be unveiled within the current fiscal year, with a deadline of March 31, 2025.

During the discussion of financial results, Furukawa also noted that it will have been almost ten years since the Nintendo Switch was first announced in March 2015. He also mentioned that there would be a Nintendo Direct presentation in June 2024 to discuss the Switch software lineup for the second half of the year, but no news about the new model would be revealed during that presentation.

Despite forecasts for a slowdown in Switch console sales, with an estimated 13.5 million units sold this year compared to 15.7 million in the previous fiscal year, Nintendo reported an increase in the number of active players on its platform. Between April 2023 and March 2024, Nintendo recorded 123 million annual players – its highest number since launch.

Nintendo has no plans to abandon its current generation of Switch consoles. The company’s goal is to maintain a strong presence in the gaming market and cater to a wide range of players by having not only one console for each home but several for each home or even one for each person.
