Ontario’s Retail Pop-up Program: Revitalizing its Downtown with $1 per Month Leases for Start-ups

Ontario introduces $1 per month rent deal for selected businesses in effort to revitalize downtown area and fill vacant storefronts

The city of Ontario is revitalizing its historic downtown area along the Euclid Avenue corridor by offering space for start-up businesses for $1 per month. This opportunity has allowed businesses like The Craft Collection to set up shop in the downtown area.

The Retail Pop-up Program, which offers six-month leases to approved businesses, is currently utilizing three city-owned buildings downtown. City of Ontario Spokesperson Dan Bell explained that the program aims to activate vacant buildings and provide temporary homes for businesses until a permanent location is secured. While the $1 per month rate may be low for the city, it prevents these buildings from staying empty.

Over 200 prospective businesses vied for eligibility in the application period for the next round of businesses interested in participating in the program. This program is a creative way for the city of Ontario to breathe new life into its downtown area and support local entrepreneurs.
