Outstanding Community Service: Margie Bonuchi Receives 2023 Walter G. and Juanita F. Niehus Award

Margie Bonuchi, a retired technology director from the Plainfield District 202 Foundation for Excellence, has been presented with the 2023 Walter G. and Juanita F. Niehus Award for her exceptional dedication to students, parents, and employees. After serving the district for 23 years, Bonuchi played a crucial role in outfitting 20 new schools with necessary technology over a span of 10 years. She secured E-Rate grant money from the FCC, resulting in significant cost savings for the district.

Beyond her work as technology director, Bonuchi was actively involved in organizing and managing the annual band boosters craft show and volunteering with various community organizations like the Rotary and Lions clubs. In recognition of her outstanding contributions, Bonuchi was honored with the prestigious Niehus Award by Superintendent Dr. Glenn Wood during the board of education’s May 29 regular meeting. She has also dedicated countless hours to serving as a Plainfield Village Board Trustee, further highlighting her commitment to the community.

The tradition of honoring individuals who make a significant impact in the district continues as Bonuchi joins an elite group of recipients who have received the Niehus Award since its inception in 1987. The next recipient will be announced at the upcoming June 26 regular meeting, continuing this important tradition of recognizing those who have made a lasting difference in their communities.

Margie Bonuchi’s legacy will continue to inspire future generations of educators and leaders as she is celebrated for her exceptional dedication to education and community service.
