In mid-June, a knife attack occurred at a private European Championship party in Wolmirstedt, Saxony-Anhalt. The perpetrator was a 27-year-old man who did not appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, according to a toxicological report. The attacker got into an argument with a 23-year-old fellow countryman and fatally injured him before proceeding to stab three other people at the party, seriously injuring a 75-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman, and slightly injuring a 56-year-old man.
When police officers arrived on the scene, the perpetrator attacked them with the knife and was shot by the officers. However, nearly 20 days after the attack, it has been confirmed that the perpetrator was not under the influence of any substances. A toxicological analysis did not detect any alcohol, drugs or medication in his system. Despite this information, authorities are still trying to understand why the situation escalated and resulted in such violence in Wolmirstedt. They are also working to determine the motive behind the attacker’s actions at the private EM-Public Viewing party.
