PGA Tour Standout Patrick Cantlay Withdraws from John Deere Classic due to Injury; Fans Look Forward to Spieth’s Return

Patrick Cantlay’s British Open participation in doubt after withdrawing from John Deere Classic due to late injury

Patrick Cantlay has withdrawn from the John Deere Classic due to an injury sustained during training. Russell Knox will replace him in the field.

Despite his injury, Cantlay is still ranked eighth in the Official World Golf Rankings and has achieved four top-10 finishes this season. He has been a consistent performer this season, missing the cut only once in 15 starts. Prior to his withdrawal, he was listed as one of the favorites to win at Royal Troon next month.

Although Cantlay’s injury appears to be minor, it is likely keeping him out of competition until the British Open begins on July 18th. With Cantlay not listed in the field for the Genesis Scottish Open next week and having skipped the Rocket Mortgage Classic, he will have three weeks off to recover. While this break may impact his preparation for a major championship, Cantlay now has ample time to nurse his injury and get back to peak performance.

In the meantime, golf fans can still look forward to seeing top players like Jordan Spieth in action at the John Deere Classic this week. Spieth, a former winner of the tournament, will be competing for a chance to earn a spot in the British Open.
