Patrick Cantlay has withdrawn from the John Deere Classic due to an injury sustained during training. Although he has had a successful career on the PGA Tour, with eight victories and a last win at the 2022 BMW Championship, this recent setback has come just as he was set to make his debut at the John Deere Classic. Russell Knox will replace him in the field.
Despite his injury, Cantlay is still ranked eighth in the Official World Golf Rankings and has achieved four top-10 finishes this season. He has been a consistent performer this season, missing the cut only once in 15 starts. Prior to his withdrawal, he was listed as one of the favorites to win at Royal Troon next month.
Although Cantlay’s injury appears to be minor, it is likely keeping him out of competition until the British Open begins on July 18th. With Cantlay not listed in the field for the Genesis Scottish Open next week and having skipped the Rocket Mortgage Classic, he will have three weeks off to recover. While this break may impact his preparation for a major championship, Cantlay now has ample time to nurse his injury and get back to peak performance.
