Phillies Welcome Back Turner, Shake Up Outfield with Rojas’ Demotion to Triple-A

Trea Turner comes back, Phillies send down Johan Rojas to Triple-A

Trea Turner, who was sidelined for six weeks with a hamstring strain, has returned to the Phillies’ active roster. The team is excited to have him back as he will resume his role as the team’s starting shortstop and No. 2 hitter behind Kyle Schwarber. Edmundo Sosa, who performed well in Turner’s absence, will transition back into a super-utility role for the team.

Sosa will also work on transitioning to the outfield during pregame sessions to provide the Phillies with another right-handed hitting option in left field or center field. The team had to make a difficult decision to create room for Turner on the active roster, ultimately opting to send Johan Rojas to Triple A. Rojas will have the opportunity to play every day and work on improving his offensive performance.

With Rojas now in Triple A, the Phillies will likely use a platoon of Brandon Marsh and Cristian Pache in center field, with Whit Merrifield and David Dahl in left field. The team is looking for increased production from their outfield options as they continue their six-game homestand. They are hoping that this new lineup will help them improve their overall offensive performance and give them an edge over their opponents.
