From June 14th to 16th, 2024, Madrid played host to the Pokémon GO Fest, drawing a crowd of over 190,000 attendees. With 70% of the attendees coming from outside of Spain, the event was a massive success and showcased the game’s ability to bring people together for cultural exchange and unique experiences.
One of the key locations for the event was Juan Carlos I Park in Madrid. Here, players were able to capture an astonishing 6.6 million Pokémon and travel an average distance of 16.4 kilometers each. One of the most popular attractions at the park was the Football Experience, where fans were able to meet football legends like Mendieta and Morientes while blending sports and digital gaming in a vibrant setting.
As part of the event, official Pokémon GO routes were created in collaboration with the City of Madrid, guiding participants through themed itineraries in both historic and modern areas of the city. This not only offered a fresh perspective on Madrid but also showcased the game’s potential as a tool for urban exploration.
Philip Marz, Regional Marketing Director for Pokémon GO, spoke about the success of the event and how tens of thousands of players from all over the world came to Madrid to enjoy it. Trainers made new friends while catching exclusive Pokémon and even witnessed five marriage proposals over the weekend! The event truly brought together fans in a fun and festive atmosphere, celebrating everything that makes this game so special while fostering camaraderie among its players.
