Portugal Hosts Key Conference to Tackle Global Challenges in Sports Integrity and Anti-Doping Measures

Discussion between Deputy Secretary General and Finnish Sports Minister focuses on values-driven approach to sports

In Porto, Portugal, the 18th Council of Europe Conference of Ministers responsible for Sport will take place on October 8th to 10th. This conference is a key opportunity for sports leaders from across the continent to come together and discuss the global challenges facing sports integrity and anti-doping measures.

During a meeting with Finland’s Minister of youth, sport, and physical activity, Sandra Bergqvist, Deputy Secretary General Bjørn Berge discussed the importance of addressing these challenges and working together to create a fair and inclusive sporting environment that upholds ethical standards and values. One topic of conversation was the significance of the “Don’t Break the Game” campaign in Finland. This campaign aims to shed light on human rights issues present in both the structures of sport and in everyday situations.

Both Berge and Bergqvist recognized that combating issues such as doping, corruption, and discrimination in sport is crucial for creating a level playing field for all athletes. They emphasized the need for collaboration between nations and organizations to address these challenges and promote ethical conduct in sports. Moving forward, they pledged to continue their efforts in advancing the cause of sports integrity on a global scale.
