Priority Health Acquires Physicians Health Plan of Northern Indiana, Expanding Healthcare Services for 1.8 Million Members

Priority Health, a Michigan-based company, seeking to grow in Northern Indiana and Ohio with acquisition plans

Priority Health, a nonprofit health plan based in Michigan, has announced its acquisition of Physicians Health Plan of Northern Indiana, a health plan located in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The deal is expected to bring together two organizations serving members in Indiana and Ohio. With a total of 1.3 million members, Priority Health is the second-largest health insurer in Michigan, trailing behind Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.

Physicians Health Plan of Northern Indiana has 52,000 members in the region and has a foundation that has provided over $10 million in grants to various organizations over the past 15 years. The acquisition is expected to streamline and improve the healthcare experience for members living near the Indiana and Ohio boundaries, where the three states meet. Gary Shearer, President and CEO of Physicians Health Plan of Northern Indiana, expressed excitement about joining forces with Priority Health, expecting positive outcomes for the communities and businesses served by the health plans.

Priority Health’s President, Praveen Thadani, noted that this acquisition would bring additional resources and innovation to Physicians Health Plan of Northern Indiana customers and members. He expressed optimism about what this partnership will bring to both organizations as they work together to provide high-quality healthcare services to their members.
