Protein Influencers: Fact or Fiction? The Science Behind their Claims

In recent years, protein influencers have become increasingly popular, urging people to pay attention to their protein intake and providing recommendations for increasing it. These influencers claim that consuming extra protein can help with building muscle, feeling full, and losing weight. However, the validity of these claims is being questioned. To shed light on this topic, Science Vs spoke with kinesiology professor Stuart Phillips and nutrition professor Faidon Magkos.

This episode of Science Vs delves into the popularity of protein, its importance in our diet, how much is enough, if additional protein is required for those who exercise, the potential risks of consuming excessive amounts of protein, the impact of consuming protein immediately after working out, and the relationship between protein intake and weight loss.

The production of this episode was led by Rose Rimler and Michelle Dang with assistance from Wendy Zukerman and Meryl Horn. Editing was done by Blythe Terrell, fact-checking by Erica Akiko Howard, and mix and sound design by Bobby Lord. The music was composed by Bobby Lord and Bumi Hidaka.
