QSC Brings Together Top Scientists and Industries to Advance Quantum Computing Research

The QSC, a DOE National Quantum Information Science Research Center located at ORNL, engaged in cutting-edge research with input from national laboratories, universities, and industry partners. Their research focuses on designing materials for topological quantum computing, developing quantum sensors, and designing quantum algorithms for various applications. These efforts aim to advance scientific discovery and enable new quantum technologies that will enhance secure, energy-efficient computing and maintain US leadership in science.

During a recent all-hands meeting held at the QSC, attendees represented national laboratories, companies, and universities such as Fermilab, LANL, ORNL, EPRI, IBM, Infleqtion, and Microsoft. In addition to these institutions were representatives from California Institute of Technology (Caltech), UC Berkeley, UCLA, UC Santa Barbara (UCSB), Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), Purdue University (PU), University of Tennessee (UTK), and the University of Washington (UW).

The social event led by the PGA was one of the highlights of the meeting. Outgoing chair Morris Yang passed his leadership responsibilities to Ryan Linehan of Fermilab during this event. The poster session sponsored by Microsoft was another important aspect of the meeting. Five winners were selected from 37 presentations during this session. The winners included Meena Gowrishankar of ORNL; Marc Illa Subina of the University of Washington; Grace Bratrud of Northwestern University; Jack Villanova of ORNL; and Mingi Kim of Purdue.
