Quantum Research and Education Partnership Between HBKU and NASA Aligns with QC2’s Objectives: Exploring Feasibility of Quantum Communications and Networking Technologies

The College of Science and Engineering (CSE) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) has partnered with NASA to explore collaborative opportunities in the field of quantum research and education. The agreement, led by the Qatar Center for Quantum Computing (QC2) at CSE, aims to advance the development of quantum technologies and align with QC2’s objectives.

One focus of the partnership is a feasibility study to develop technologies for quantum communications and networking, as well as quantum sensors for space science and observation. This includes the modeling and testing of systems for applications such as blind quantum computing, distributed quantum computing, and Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI). Additionally, the collaboration considers potential future space-based quantum missions for technology demonstration and testing.

HBKU and NASA will also work together on training, education, and workforce development in quantum technologies. The initiative will involve the creation of specialized educational programs to build local capacity and attract talent from the region.

Dr. Saif Al-Kuwari, Director of QC2, highlighted the broad scope of the collaboration and its potential to drive innovation in quantum technologies. “This partnership is an exciting opportunity for HBKU to collaborate with one of the world’s leading space agencies,” he said. “Together we can further advance our research in this rapidly evolving field.”
