Rattlers Ready to Take on Spring Quarterback Battle Amid Excitement for Upcoming Football Season

Florida’s Best College Sports Mascot: FAMU Rattlers

Florida A&M University’s Rattlers football team is at the center of an ongoing spring quarterback battle as the team prepares for the upcoming season. The Rattlers have high hopes for their offense, with over 6,700 responses received in a recent poll determining the best mascot name in Florida college sports.

The iconic rattlesnake logo has become a symbol of pride for FAMU students, and the university has gained attention from big names like LeBron James, who supplies uniforms and apparel for all Rattler teams. The Rattlers’ football team is known for their tough defense, which led them to a thrilling Celebration Bowl win over Howard in December.

FAMU is the only Rattlers in NCAA Division I, with only two other college programs sharing the name in Division II and the NJCAA. The resilient and gritty nature of the rattlesnake inspired the choice of mascot for FAMU students, dating back to 1891 when the school was relocated to Highwood Plantation, full of rattlesnakes. The university was previously known as the Wildcats and even briefly as the Flamingos in the 1940s.
