Record-Breaking Growth in Girls Flag Football Pilot Program: Empowering and Inspiring with the Help of the Denver Broncos Foundation

CHSAA Approves Girls Flag Football as Official High School Sport, Supported by Broncos

In 2023, the girls flag football pilot program experienced a significant increase in participation, with the number of participants (1,316) and games (680) growing by 161 percent and 310 percent, respectively. The Denver Broncos Foundation, with backing from the Broncos and CHSAA, launched the state’s girls flag football pilot program in 2021 and funded the inaugural seasons from 2022-23. The initial pilot program included 50 schools, 10 school districts, and nearly 1,500 girls who played in almost 850 games.

CHSAA Commissioner Mike Krueger expressed his excitement about the program’s growth, highlighting that it goes beyond just playing a game to promote empowerment, teamwork, and breaking barriers. The program aims to cultivate leadership, confidence, and equality for female athletes while inspiring a new era of inclusivity and self-empowerment.

The Broncos have been consistent supporters of the pilot program since its launch. They have hosted championship tournaments and round-robin exhibition events at Centura Health Training Center in recent seasons. Members of Broncos leadership and players have attended these events to show their support. With the official sanctioning of the sport by CHSAA, the Denver Broncos Foundation will continue to support girls flag football through seasonal programming, coaching clinics, athlete recognition programs
