Trevor Story, the key player of the Red Sox, suffered a dislocated shoulder over the weekend in Anaheim. The shortstop will be seeking a second opinion from Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles on Friday. Red Sox manager Alex Cora expressed concern about Story’s “bone structure” and surgery is a potential option. Meanwhile, the team is awaiting more information over the weekend.
As a result of Story’s injury, the Red Sox have had to make adjustments to their infield plans. Against right-handed pitchers, David Hamilton and Enmanuel Valdez will pair up, while against lefties, Romy Gonzalez and Pablo Reyes will be the double-play combo. Vaughn Grissom, who is coming off an injury, is expected to return soon and may see time at shortstop as well.
The focus remains on Story’s condition despite these new plans for the infield. After missing most of last season following elbow surgery, Story was expected to be a key player for the Red Sox. The team was relying on his defensive skills and power hitting in the lineup. A second opinion with Dr. ElAttrache is expected to provide more clarity on his condition but the outlook is uncertain.
If surgery becomes necessary for Story, it means that he may miss out on playing for the rest of this season which would be a significant blow to both him and his teammates. However, they are adapting their strategies and moving forward without him until he returns or until they have more information about his condition
