Relocating Endangered Turtles: The Efforts of Hoa Vang Forest Ranger District and Nam Son Pagoda

On April 25, the Hoa Vang Forest Ranger District received 114 individual turtles from Nam Son Pagoda in Hoa Chau commune, Hoa Vang district. These turtles, including striped turtles and box turtles, were voluntarily surrendered by the pagoda and had been released by people at the temple over the years. The forest ranger department had previously lobbied the temple to hand over the turtles so that they could be relocated to a safer environment in Cuc Phuong National Park.

The forest rangers worked with experts from the nature protection center in Hanoi to research, classify species, determine their habitat and release them into the wild. The lake at Nam Son Pagoda is home to many different species of turtle, which is why it’s important to ensure their well-being. Many people come to pray at Nam Son Temple and release fish and turtles into the lake. However, this has led to a problem where not enough habitat is guaranteed for these animals. By relocating them to Cuc Phuong National Park, their habitat will be secured and they will have a better chance of surviving in the wild.

Nam Son is a large temple located in Danang that attracts many visitors and tourists who come to pray. The temple grounds include a large lake where many people release fish and turtles. However, due to the high number of species released into the lake, their habitat is not secure enough. Efforts were made by the forest ranger department to lobby for this relocation so that these animals could be moved to a safer environment where they would have a better chance of thriving.

In conclusion, more than 100 turtles that were voluntarily surrendered by Nam Son Pagoda have been handed over to rangers by the pagoda and released into Cuc Phuong National Park.
