Returning to the Giants: A Glimpse into the Struggles and Resurrection of Drew Pomeranz’s MLB Career

The San Francisco Giants have reacquired left-handed pitcher Drew Pomeranz in an effort to strengthen their bullpen. Initially, Pomeranz joined the Giants in 2019 as a reclamation project for the rotation, but found success when moved to the bullpen. After several impressive performances, he was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers. Following stints with the San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers, Pomeranz is now back with the Giants on a major league contract.

To make room for Pomeranz on the roster, Mason Black was sent back to Triple-A and Jakson Reetz was designated for assignment. Pomeranz, who has struggled with injuries in recent years, brings experience and depth to the Giants’ bullpen, which already includes lefties Taylor Rogers and Erik Miller. His fastball velocity has been in the 90-92 mph range in recent outings.

The Giants are taking a low-cost gamble on Pomeranz as another option for their bullpen. This move adds another reunion to the team, as they recently brought back catcher Curt Casali to fill a roster spot. The Giants are hoping Pomeranz can contribute to their pitching staff as they make a push for the postseason.
