Rush to Treat Dozens of Workers Affected by Food Poisoning in Vietnam after Lunch

About 100 Dong Nai workers rushed to the emergency room due to suspected food poisoning.

Over 100 workers at Dechang Vietnam Co., Ltd.’s facility in Giang Dien Industrial Park, Trang Bom district, fell ill with stomach pain, vomiting, and diarrhea after consuming chicken noodles and rice cakes during an afternoon meal. The affected workers were rushed to the Trang Bom District Medical Center for emergency treatment on May 15.

Due to the high volume of patients, beds were shared among 2-3 individuals, with stretchers and beds lining the aisles of the emergency room. Dr. Nguyen Duc Phuoc, Director of the medical center, reported that the symptoms appeared after dinner at the company where chicken Quang noodles and rice cakes were consumed. Out of approximately 500 workers who dined together, nearly 100 exhibited symptoms of food poisoning.

Samples were taken for testing to determine the cause of the outbreak, but results were not immediately available. One worker was in serious condition and required a ventilator while the rest were in stable condition and prescribed medication before being sent home for monitoring.

This incident comes after several other food poisoning outbreaks in Vietnam this month. On May 1st more than 500 people were affected by contaminated bread in Long Khanh while over 350 workers in Vinh Phuc experienced food poisoning after lunch on May 14th. Two pediatric patients remain in serious condition at Dong Nai Children’s Hospital and Children’s Hospital 1 in Ho Chi Minh City due to food poisoning from May 1st.

This incident highlights the importance of food safety measures in industrial settings and emphasizes the need for prompt medical attention when suspected food poisoning outbreaks occur. It serves as a reminder that care should be taken when consuming food at workplaces or public places and it is essential to ensure that proper safety measures are taken to prevent such incidents from happening again.

In conclusion, this incident underscores how important it is for businesses to take responsibility for their employees’ well-being by implementing strict food safety measures and ensuring that their products are safe for consumption. It also emphasizes how critical it is for hospitals and medical professionals to have adequate resources to handle large-scale emergency situations like these effectively.

It is hoped that this event will serve as a wake-up call for all businesses operating in Vietnam regarding their responsibilities towards their employees’ health and safety, particularly when it comes to providing safe meals or products within their workplaces or public areas.
