Atianna Marquez, a senior at Sanger Apache Senior, has a passion for flying – specifically in the pole vault. Since her freshman year, she has been competing in this event and breaking records along the way. Marquez loves the feeling of being in the air and using her athleticism to excel in the sport.
Her dedication and fearlessness while vaulting have set her apart from others. Coach Michael Gonzales praises her commitment, saying that she gives her all in every jump. Marquez broke the school record during her sophomore year and has continued to surpass her own records multiple times since then.
Marquez not only excels in pole vaulting but also in high jump and sprinting. She has a remarkable ability to compartmentalize each event and perform excellently in all of them. Her success in the CMAC titles for pole vaulting, high jump, and other events led her team to victory in the overall competition.
Due to her outstanding performances, Marquez has earned a spot to continue her pole vaulting career at Cal State Fullerton. She hopes to continue vaulting and possibly even sprinting at the collegiate level. Marquez’s ultimate goal is to compete at the state track meet at Veteran’s Memorial Stadium, a dream she’s been chasing after her recent third-place finish in the pole vault at the Central Section Master’s tournament.
Marquez’s drive, talent, and determination have made her a standout athlete at Sanger High School. Her journey in track and field has been nothing short of impressive, and she is poised to make a big impact at the collegiate level and beyond
