Seattle’s Business Leaders Visit Detroit to Explore University-Driven Prosperity and Innovation

Seattle delegation explores Wayne State University and the entrepreneurial culture of Detroit – Today@Wayne

A group of more than 60 delegates from Seattle recently visited Detroit to learn about the city’s business startup and entrepreneurial culture, as well as how an urban-serving, top-tier research university can drive prosperity for the community. President Espy expressed her honor in hosting leaders from another American city and shared insights on Detroit’s spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship, as well as the university’s Prosperity Agenda.

The Seattle group included Mayor Bruce Harrell and regional leaders, as well as representatives from companies like Amazon, Boeing, Microsoft, and Starbucks. Members from the University of Washington and Washington State University communities were also present during the visit to Detroit. Stacie Clayton, director of community affairs, highlighted the importance of including Wayne State University in the benchmarking visit organized by the Seattle Metro Chamber.

Leaders from various departments across Wayne State University participated in the visit, including schools and colleges, as well as divisions of economic development, research, development and alumni affairs, and university relations. Throughout the Intercity Study Mission to Detroit, delegates visited key spots like Wayne State’s Hilberry Gateway, Integrative Biosciences Center, and TechTown to gain a comprehensive understanding of the university’s impact on the city.
