Senate Committee on Judiciary Discusses Four Bills Related to Law Enforcement and Public Safety

United States Senate Committee on the Judiciary Executive Business Meeting

On Thursday, May 16, 2024 at 10:00 a.m., the Senate Committee on the Judiciary will convene at the Dirksen Senate Office Building, Room G50 to discuss several bills related to law enforcement and public safety.

The agenda for the meeting includes S. 930, the Honoring Our Fallen Heroes Act of 2023, introduced by Senators Klobuchar, Cramer, and Welch. This bill aims to recognize the sacrifices made by law enforcement officers in the line of duty and honor them.

Next on the agenda is S. 3335, the Retired Federal Law Enforcement Officers Continuing Service Act, introduced by Senators Klobuchar and Grassley. This bill addresses the issue of retired federal law enforcement officers who wish to continue serving their communities.

The committee will also discuss S. 4235, a bill introduced by Senators Hawley and Whitehouse to amend the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968. This bill aims to reauthorize grants to support law enforcement officers and their families as well as other purposes related to public safety.

Lastly, the committee will address S. 1306, the COPS Reauthorization Act, introduced by Senators Klobuchar, Murkowski, Coons, Tillis and Graham. This bill focuses on reauthorizing the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) program which provides funding for community policing initiatives across the country.
