Shining a Spotlight on Public Health: Austin’s Efforts to Keep Community Healthy and Safe

Austin Public Health Spotlights Staff and Services for National Public Health Week

As the sun shines and flowers bloom, National Public Health Week begins in Austin, Texas. This week is dedicated to recognizing the staff, community, and individuals who play a role in promoting public health in our community. Just four years ago, the focus was on responding to the pandemic and working towards getting back to normalcy. This included preparing for spring festivals, events, and the full force return of Austin Public Health (APH) services.

This year, APH Director Adrienne Sturrup highlights the various aspects of life that are impacted by public health efforts. From ensuring vaccines are available for children to inspecting restaurants for best practices, there are countless initiatives taking place every day to create a healthier community. To kick off National Public Health Week, APH has released a video showcasing over a dozen of their programs.

Austin-Travis County Health Authority Dr. Desmar Walkes encourages everyone to prioritize their health needs, especially after the disruptions caused by the pandemic. APH offers a range of services, from diabetes care to support for new mothers and their children, in addition to connections with community partners for additional support. Don’t let concerns stand in the way of a healthy life – APH is here to assist.
