Legendary fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has joined the chorus of criticism against Pakistan Cricket Board’s decision to remove Shaheen Shah Afridi as captain after just one series. In an interview, Akhtar expressed his disappointment with the lack of consistency and stability in leadership roles within the PCB. He argued that the decision to replace Babar Azam with Shaheen Afridi and then remove him so quickly was not right.

Akhtar also praised former cricketers for staying away from the constant criticism and politics within Pakistan cricket. He believed that it was a blessing in disguise for them to be away from the current situation. The legendary speedster’s comments came after Pakistan’s early exit from the T20 World Cup due to losses against the USA and India.

Former captain Babar Azam had stepped down from his leadership role after Pakistan’s disappointing performance in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. Shaheen Shah Afridi was appointed as the T20I captain, but his tenure was short-lived as Pakistan struggled in the series against New Zealand. With the arrival of Mohsin Naqvi as the new PCB chairman, Babar Azam was reinstated as the white-ball captain.
