Spain Readies to Dazzle in Race Walking Championships, Securing Olympic Dreams for Top Athletes

The World Athletics Race Walking Team Championships Antalya 24 is set to take place on April 21st, and Spain will be represented by a squad of 22 athletes. The team includes double world champions Alvaro Martin and Maria Perez, who have both had success in the race walking events.

In addition to the individual events, Spanish athletes will also be competing in all five relay races at the championships. One of these relay races is the marathon race walk mixed relay, which will feature teams made up of one male and one female athlete completing the marathon distance in four legs of equal distance. While the exact pairs for this event have not been announced yet, six top Spanish race walkers have been chosen to compete in it, including Martin, Perez, European champion Alberto Amezcua, and others.

The top 22 teams that finish in Antalya will qualify for the marathon race walk mixed relay at the Olympic Games in Paris. Spain hopes to secure two relay spots for the Olympics by putting in a strong performance in Antalya. The men’s 20km team features national champion Paul McGrath and European Championships medallist Diego García Carrera, while the women’s squad includes European silver medallist Raquel Gonzalez.

Overall, Spain’s Antalya team is composed of a talented group of athletes across different race walking events all aiming to perform well and secure their spots at the upcoming Olympics.
