Sri Lanka and India Secure First Two Spots for 2026 T20 World Cup as Super Eight Qualifiers and Rankings Determine Next Ten

The potential future outlook of the Men’s T20 World Cup

The host countries for the 2026 T20 World Cup have been determined, with Sri Lanka and India taking up the first two spots. The next 10 spots were decided by a combination of Super Eight qualifiers from the 2024 edition and the ICC Men’s T20I Team Rankings as of the 30 June cut-off date.

After strong performances in the First Round, Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, South Africa, and the West Indies secured their spots in Group A and B of the Second Round. Meanwhile, Pakistan was unable to make it past Group A due to poor performance but still managed to earn a spot at the tournament thanks to their T20I ranking of 8th.

The USA earned a spot in Group A after defeating Pakistan in a Super Over during their Second Round match. Despite not making it to Group B, New Zealand (6th) and Ireland (11th) also earned spots at the 2026 T20 World Cup based on their T20I rankings.
