Swiss Defenseman Roman Josi Leads the Pack in IIHF World Championship as Predators Takes on Canada in Semifinals

Roman Josi, a defenseman for the Nashville Predators and native of Switzerland, is currently competing at the IIHF World Championship in Czechia. The Swiss team, who have never won a gold medal at the tournament, have made it to the semifinal round where they will face Canada.

Josi has been a crucial player for the Swiss team, leading all tournament players in points with 11 (three goals, eight assists) and tying for the team lead in overall points. As their captain, he has been a standout performer throughout the tournament.

Former Predators forwards Kevin Fiala and Nino Niederreiter have also been instrumental in Switzerland’s success. Fiala, now with the Los Angeles Kings, has scored 11 points (six goals, five assists) in eight games while Niederreiter, currently with the Winnipeg Jets, has contributed six points (two goals, four assists) during the tournament.

The Swiss team’s only loss so far was against Canada in the preliminary round with a 3-2 defeat. They secured wins against Norway, Austria, Czechia, Great Britain, Denmark and Finland to secure their spot in the semifinals.
