The Los Angeles Angels’ clubhouse is in disarray just two games into the 2024 season, with manager Ron Washington calling an emergency team meeting after their 13-4 loss to the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday. This marked the Angels’ second blowout loss in a row. Despite the rough start, catcher Logan O’Hoppe emphasized that there are still 160 games left in the regular season and that no one is hitting the panic button yet.
The Angels suffered an 11-3 loss in their season opener against the Orioles before dropping Saturday’s game by nine runs. The team had to pull both their starter and reliever before they were able to get an out, allowing a total of 24 runs through two games. This set a new franchise record for the Angels.
However, the team meeting seemed to have a positive impact, as they won 4-1 against the Orioles on Sunday to close out the series. Taylor Ward hit a two-run homer in the first inning, and the team added two more runs in the second before securing the victory.
Looking ahead, the Angels will face off against Miami Marlins in a three-game series starting on Monday afternoon before their home opener against Boston Red Sox on Friday. While there is still time to turn things around, it seems like their season has not started as they had hoped since entering post-Shohei Ohtani era at Anaheim stadium.
