Tragic Accident Kills Howard University Freshman, Leaves Professor Agarwal Injured

On April 11th, Howard University School of Business professor Dr. Kamal Agarwal was involved in a fatal crash in front of Cook Hall, according to the school’s officials. The accident occurred when Agarwal, who is 72 years old, failed to negotiate a left turn while driving his car on 6th Street NW and Fairmont at high speed. As a result, he collided with Howard freshman Mohamed Samura, who tragically passed away on April 15 due to his injuries.

Dr. Agarwal has not commented on the incident due to his health condition at this time. However, Dean Dr. Anthony Wilbon expressed sadness over Mohamed’s death and informed the community that Agarwal is currently recovering from his injuries at home. In response to the tragedy, the School of Business organized meetings with Samura’s business orientation team, friends, faculty, and staff to offer support and guidance during this difficult time.

Howard University has extended its full support to all those affected by the tragedy and encouraged anyone in need to seek professional help for grief counseling. It remains uncertain whether Dr. Agarwal will return to teaching at the university after his recovery or if there will be any changes to traffic signage around Cook Hall in response to the car crash. The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) investigation into the accident is still ongoing as confirmed by both the police department and a lawyer representing Samura’s family.
