Tragic Accidents Plague Royal Caribbean’s Largest Cruise Ship, Icon of the Seas.

Massive Icon of the Seas ship catches fire days after departing

On Tuesday, a small fire broke out on the largest cruise ship in the world, the Icon of the Seas, while it was docked in Costa Maya, Mexico. The vessel had previously been in the news when a passenger fell to his death last month. However, this time the fire occurred in a crew area and was quickly extinguished without any injuries.

Despite the minor fire incident, the Icon of the Seas is currently on a week-long Western Caribbean cruise that departed from Miami, Florida on Saturday. This is not the first notable event on the ship since its maiden voyage in January. In May, a passenger jumped off the Icon of the Seas while the ship was only 300 miles from its origin port in Florida. Passengers on board described a chaotic scene when they thought the man had been rescued from the water, only to later learn that he had not survived. Another incident occurred earlier when a 20-year-old passenger fell to his death during a reportedly drunken fight with his father on a different Royal Caribbean cruise.

The cruise company did not provide immediate comments regarding these incidents.
