On Saturday, the skiing community was hit with a devastating loss as Italian skier Jean Daniel Pession and his girlfriend Elisa Arlian tragically lost their lives after a fall at Monte Zerbion in Italy. The couple, who were both 28 years old, had been skiing together when they fell approximately 2,300 feet from the mountain.
Pession, who was a member of the Italian Winter Sports Federation and known for his impressive skiing skills and accomplishments, had achieved a 15th place finish in the final 2021 World Cup ranking. He was well-respected in the skiing world and had been preparing to compete at the upcoming 2022 World Championships.
Arlian, who was also an accomplished skier, had been training with Pession in preparation for the championships. The two were reportedly found tied together later on after rescuers located them using their cell phone signal following reports that they were missing on the mountain.
The news of their deaths has sent shockwaves through the winter sports and speed skiing communities, with many people expressing condolences and remembrances of Pession’s legacy on social media. His fans have poured in messages of support and admiration for his incredible skills as an athlete.
