On May 23, Dr. Bunty Shah played taps at Penn State Health’s Memorial Day observance to honor those who lost their lives while serving in the U.S. armed forces. The annual event was hosted by the Military and Veteran Business Employee Resource Group (BERG) at the Penn State College of Medicine Biomedical Research Building courtyard.
The ceremony included an opening prayer by Penn State Health president Kyle Snyder and PA State Rep. John Schlegel, the folding of the U.S. flag, and Dr. Bunty Shah playing taps. Tables recognizing prisoners of war and those missing in action were set up in each hospital cafeteria after the event, and participants and patients at Penn State Health Children’s Hospital enjoyed patriotic-themed ice cream.
Members of the Military/Veteran BERG and the Office for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion placed U.S. flags at the entrance of Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center to honor family members, friends, and colleagues who have served or are serving in the military.
The Flags of Honor program is currently underway, allowing individuals to honor loved ones by displaying a small U.S. flag in front of their designated Penn State Health entity until Monday, July 15th . Each flag costs $20, with funds raised supporting medical equipment and technology at St Joseph Medical Center as well as addressing greatest needs at Lancaster Medical Center Holy Spirit Medical Center ,and Hampden Medical Center .
