Jannik Sinner recently achieved an impressive feat as he advanced to the semi-finals of the French Open without even realizing it. The Italian player defeated Grigor Dimitrov in straight sets, but Novak Djokovic had to withdraw from the tournament due to a knee injury. As a result, Sinner will take over the top spot in the rankings when they are updated next Monday.
This achievement makes Sinner the first man from Italy to reach the world number one ranking in tennis. In a post-match interview, Sinner expressed his excitement and gratitude for this achievement, saying, “First of all, it’s every player’s dream to be number one in the world…But seeing Novak retiring is disappointing so I wish him a speedy recovery.”
Sinner’s performance against Dimitrov was solid, with a score of 6-2 6-4 7-6 (3), and he is looking forward to competing in the semi-finals. He said, “My performance was very solid, especially in the first two sets. I’m very happy how I reacted later and happy to be in the semis. It’s going to be a huge pleasure once again step once again on this court.” This milestone achievement is significant for Sinner’s career and represents great pride for Italian tennis fans.
