Unexpected Roadblocks and Traffic Jam at St. John’s Night Festival in Mainz

Three parking garages in Mainz closed for hours due to massive traffic jam

On Monday night, three parking garages located along the Rhine in Mainz were suddenly closed, leading to a major traffic jam. The closure was due to the St. John’s Night Festival that took place in the city, which culminated with a fireworks display. In order to keep pedestrians safe, the city decided to shut down the parking garages between Fischtorplatz and Kaisertor from 9:30 p.m. on Monday until 1 a.m. on Tuesday.

Unfortunately, many festival attendees were caught off guard by the closure and found themselves trapped inside as their exits were blocked by flatbed trucks. Despite receiving small A4 printouts about the closure, they remained frustrated and stranded in the garages.

Eventually, city officials allowed drivers to leave before the official closure time, but their journey home was not without obstacles. They encountered a motorcade of Italian Football fans who were causing another delay.

Despite everything that happened that night, staying calm and patient was all anyone could do as they navigated through the unexpected chaos that unfolded along the Rhine in Mainz.
