Unstoppable Performances Earn High School Girls Athlete of the Week Honors in Upstate SC

The Upstate high school girls athlete of the week for May 13-19 has been announced, and the finalists include Ayanna Hunt from Westside, Miah Johnson from Riverside, Kinsley Kay of Belton-Honea Path, and Alina Uguz from Christ Church.

Voting for the award will end at 5 p.m. on Wednesday. Last week’s fan favorite was Byrnes softball player Kaylee Hannon, who showcased her exceptional talent and determination on the field.

Among the finalists, Ayanna Hunt emerged victorious in shot put and discus events at the Class AAAA track and field state championship meet. Miah Johnson also made the list by winning the 800 meters and 1600 meters at the same championship meet.

Kinsley Kay of Belton-Honea Path displayed impressive skills as she pitched a complete game in a 5-1 victory against Palmetto in the Class AAA Upper State championship game. In seven innings, she allowed only five hits, all singles, while striking out six and walking one. Halle Tompkins from Palmetto also impressed with a four-hit shutout and nine strikeouts in a 6-0 win over Woodruff in an elimination game during the Class AAA Upper State finals.

Alina Uguz from Christ Church secured wins in high jump and triple jump at the Class A track and field state championship meet, showcasing her exceptional talent and determination on the field.
