VCU Health’s First Cultural Festival Focuses on Diversity and Community Engagement through Health Screenings and Entertainment

On June 15, VCU Health hosted its first Cultural Festival outside the VCU Medical Center. The event aimed to promote diversity and support healthier communities by featuring a variety of entertainment and health-focused activities. A diverse group of attendees gathered to enjoy music, dance performances, and prioritize their well-being through health screenings.

One attendee, Arielle James, expressed her appreciation for the event’s focus on self-care and free health screenings, which she had never experienced at previous events. Participants enjoyed food trucks, face painting, music, and dance performances while the first 200 guests received free tickets for the food trucks.

In addition to the health screenings, the festival recognized several celebrations such as Pride Month, Juneteenth, and Caribbean American Heritage Month. Attendees were grateful for the opportunity to access healthcare services without insurance.

Ariana Barringtine, director of supplier diversity at VCU Health, emphasized the importance of community involvement and inclusivity in future events. The festival collaborated with organizations like Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, Reach Out and Read, and the Children’s Hospital of Richmond to provide free books to children attending the festival.

VCU Health plans to continue organizing events that promote diversity, health, and community engagement with a focus on expanding participation and improving overall experience based on feedback received. To schedule a health screening with VCU Health visit their website.
